In a not so "woe is me" thread, i'm interested to know where people are purchasing their personal laptops from...

 

I'm after one of those slim ones without the CD drive. I'm not sure what brands are popular at the moment. I want it to be as powerful as it can for £400.

 

It's so much easier buying for school!

 

Anyone bought one recently they're pleased with?

not out yet but the Dell venue 11 pro looks like a decent device. depends what you want from a laptop my main "laptop" is a 17" dell with 2 hard drives and an i7 but for portability ive got a asus vivitab smart tablet (sometimes too weedy being atom based)

As for slim, maybe pushing it for £400, Ultrabooks are expensive and the cheap thin ones tend to lack umph so you are probably more likely to get a normal laptop with optical drive.

Lenovo and Toshiba for me are the best laptop's out at the moment - although not sure if they are at the £400 price point.

I don't know - all i know is I havn't used one of the lenovo's at that price point.

 

although mine was around £520 (Lenovo E420S) but I have stuck an SSD and an extra 4gb ram in (ram cost about 20 quid) and was very easy to do.

 

I am currently running my machine underneath and 2 VM's off it without even stressing it. (Intel I5, 8GB 256 SSD).

Possibly getting a refurb ( Dell and other manufacturers generally tend to have a sub section on there site ref Refurbed laptops ) ??

 

Also as per the stock2ber competition thread , @VeryPC sell to individuals etc - give them a call on there number , am sure Al and Co. can help you out more

My sister was looking at a HP laptop last night from Argos. Don't have the link to hand, but for 400 you got a dual core, 4gb ram, 15.6in screen, I can't remember the HDD size though. I'm not really 'selling' it right now, I know, but the spec seemed very good.

Most important bit: 3-year warranty as default.
