[ipad] Windows takes too long to install drivers and bricks iPad

When I try to update any of our iPads to iOS7 via iTunes Windows sits for ages searching pre-configured driver folders until iTunes gives up and says it couldn't install, then within a couple of seconds Windows suddenly decides that it does have the driver and its ready to go.

 

The issue here is that the iPads are now bricked until I run them through an OS restore and then a backup restore.

 

Its not possible for me to update the iPads without iTunes because the update can't be verified (It does work if I use my phones 3g instead of the schools internet)

 

Has anyone come across this before?

I've had this happen in a couple of schools now but in others it works fine so I'm not sure what the cause could be.

Done a bit of research and it looks like its only the Intel machines that have this issue... Identical image on an AMD machine and it works no problem.

It has to do with the PC looking at Windows updates instead of on PC. Quick and dirty is to click the "skip checking online" option when you plug it in and it asks for a driver. There is 3 drivers....

 

Or just do OTA updates
