Due to a faulty cable/connector in one of my schools I had to disconnect EVERYTHING from the network and plug it all back again.

I took the opportunity to scribble all the points and where they were and where they went to but I'd now like to make the info look nice and maintainable for the poor person who takes over from me if/when me and the head have a falling out :)

Now what I want is to have a logical diagram (e.g switch - switch - classroom) type diagram AND one superimposed on school physical layout but I don't want to maintain two separate systems for this.

is there something out there (for free of course) that I can use for this?

Excel for drawing switch diagrams you could use it for patch panels as well. Just put it this way I once been part of a team that recorded the location of 1500 network ports.

Would someone mind uploading a net diagram done in dia and pm me a link as I could do with a bit of help to show how to use it - e.g can't see easy way of showing patch panel -> switch connections
