Same here ^ I've never known it and have recommended it to many people - seems odd to me that you'd have these issues @X-13... maybe an issue specifically with the Galaxy S version of the ROM?

 

Possibly, but I'm not the only one who has had problems with the battery draining.

 

I'm going to see if I can install the stock ROM [when I figure out where to get it from] and see if it improves.

As you probably saw on my other post I too have been having issues with cyanogenmod on my S3 and battery was one of the issues. However the constant freezing and crashing being the major one.

 

Not saying it is because of CM, because I have had many versions which run fine just that it COULD be ... (as reverting back to the stock rom has fixed the freezing and given me better battery life)

I don't get it. I've put this on two Samsung Galaxy S3 devices and no problems what so ever if anything the devices performed a lot better. I heard that in the UK apparently the only unbranded phone was if you buy them from Three. Me & my girlfriend are on Three, great network but they don't brand the phones either. Though I have heard company's like EE and O2 like to install different apps and have sometimes been know to change small things in the hardware for security and all sorts. So maybe it's because you have bought a phone from anyone but Three?? Just a thought....

My S2 is a T-Mobile device, and no issues here... Although mine is unbranded :S

I couldn't get the stock rom to boot properly, it was just looping.

 

I've installed the latest version on CM... >25% battery gone in 30 minutes.

First full day of use on the latest Samsung FW & ROM and I finished the day with 47% battery!! NEVER seen that from any CM ROM. Weird

When flashing the ROMs have you followed these steps?

 

1. factory wipe / reset

2. wipe cache (some say twice)

3. wipe dalvik cache

4. install ROM

 

If not it can cause various issues. Usually you can get away without 2 & 3, but this is what can cause problems.

What kernel are you using? CWM is the only way to go IMO

 

Also, if you're anything like me - you'll install all your software as soon as you've flashed the ROM. If so, try leaving it a day or so... Could be one of your apps causing the issue.

I have 2 issues with this post.

 

Firstly, CWM is not, i repeat NOT, a kernel. It is simply a recovery environment, much like the winpe environment used to repair windows.

 

Secondly, the installation of apps immmediately after flashing will not cause this. It is memory leak or background system app causing the problem. @X-13 and @CHR1S can you both do something for me?

 

Post your phone model numbers, android version, kernel version and firmware build version? Also go into battery status and check what is causing the battery drain. Ideally your android system and Android OS should both below 10%.

Im back to stock now and sticking with it for the time being. Want me to still do it?

 

If you are still on a custom rom at the minute, yes please. It might be something obvious that is causing it. If you have already gone back to stock then it doesn't matter

I realise it's not the kernel, simply used the wrong lingo - but some kernels do work better with CWM from what I've read - only ever used CWM for a prolonged period for the recovery so can't speak from experience, only what I've read.

 

When it came to my comment on the apps - that wasn't the point I was making, what I was meaning is - if the apps are installed immediately, it could be the apps that are causing the the drainage of battery (not necessarily when they're installed). I was merely mentioning doing this to monitor the battery usage with a fresh install of a ROM to be certain it is the system causing the battery drain and not a 3rd party app.

Negative. The os and the kernal simply does not care what recovery is installed. Ever. Once booted into android, it has no effect.

 

And twrp is the way to go
