ThePalmist Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Guys, Just wanting to gauge opinions. What would people like, pay per year for your anti-virus or pay a little bit more covering three years. Three year deal saves bit of money over the course but schools will have to cough up a little bit more intially. thanks
Millgate Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 I always recommend 3 years because it's more cost effective. However, depending on the size of the deal and who it's with, I have been known to secure 3 year pricing with a 3 year contract but you pay us annually
john Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 I agree on savings, but as can be seen on this forum AV software can go from its cheap and works but not great to trashing PCs in one version (glares at Sophos from a few years ago where it ran on anything to needing stupid volumes of RAM) if that happened your stuck for up to 3 years so in my mind its a risk as they will stop you using the older version its not like a 3 year EA from Microsoft where fine Win 8 wasn't great (or maybe you liked it?!) but you could ignore and the world didn't end too badly as you could skip a version but that may not be possible with the AV. But I do know what you mean on budget concerns and a 3 year deal that offers a good reduction is worth looking at.
ThePalmist Posted September 13, 2013 Author Posted September 13, 2013 AV product in question has been in use across our estate for the last decade or so.
FN-GM Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 We dont pay for AV as such. We use the System Center Endpoint, its included with the Mcirosoft EEES agreement.
MordyT Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 I normally pay 0. For unlimited years. Avast free for EDU works fine here.
ThePalmist Posted September 13, 2013 Author Posted September 13, 2013 I normally pay 0. For unlimited years. Avast free for EDU works fine here. 1. Are you allowed to use it for business? 2. Does it give you central management per site?
MordyT Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 1. Are you allowed to use it for business? 2. Does it give you central management per site? 1. Free for EDU. Pay for commercial. Free for home as well. 2. Yes. An nice interface, similar to eset. 1
vortex999 Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 I normally pay 0. For unlimited years. Avast free for EDU works fine here. Is this US only though?
Pottsey Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Unless I missed something Avast is only free for edu use in the USA.
john Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Must admin I didn't pay for AV as it was part of EES so we used that and scrapped the terror of Sophos
MordyT Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Doh... I didn't realize only for us. Someone should ask them why. Last I checked they aren't based in us.
dave.81 Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 We've always gone with annual deals (Avast, AVG, Norton all been used) but last year went with a 3 year deal for Vipre.
Tall_Paul Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 I went for a five year deal for Trend, but then I haven't been bitten yet!
