Serif

Hi everyone,

 

How many of you use Serif? What are your thoughts?

 

We've recently become a supplier but I want to see what your opinion was on it.

Our lower ability students seem to cope with Serif more easily than Adobe CS5.......

It used to be in use here, but i think it wasn't advanced enough.

We use the X5 suite for simple Year 7 and 8 projects, for year 9 and above they use CS4 instead.

 

TBH, with Serif you get what you pay for, cheap, cheerful but prone to a few bugs and occasionally some lost work.

The various products are easy enough to use but just hope you never need to contact serif support for anything, slow isn't the word.

My parents use it at home and it suits them fine, sometimes I use it too, and it's handy. But i'm not sure i'd want it in an enterprise.

We use Movie Plus X6 here. It's a great alternative to Premier. Teachers and kids love it. We have a site licence for 500 machines.

We have version X3/X4 of the suite IIRC. It's cheap and ok-ish.

 

Hmm, PagePlus is (slightly) better than Publisher.

WebPlus == frontpage.

Photoplus is alright.

MoviePlus the kids seem to get on with, though for much of what they're doing they'll use Windows Movie Maker. Beyond that they tend to use Final Cut.

Unsure how much DrawPlus & PanoramaPlus are used.

 

From a reseller perspective, you understand it is (or was) pretty easy for a customer to keep knocking the price down with Serif direct, right? A "nah, not interested in upgrading/buying" response normally elicits a couple of hundred off the price without any real prompting.

 

Side effect is if Serif ever get your details, you'll have enough free copies to build a fort out of DVD cases.

Thanks for the feedback guys. It's good to know your views.

 

You'll always get a better price coming to a reseller than going direct due to trade pricing etc. I've never used it myself so I was keen to see what you guys thought of it. I'll have a play with it
