Starting Moodle

Can anyone point me in the right direction to setup and trial Moodle?

Moodle is a big (and worthwhile if done right) project.

 

Start with MoodleDocs

 

You'll need a webserver (ideally public facing), it'll work on IIS or Apache etc but much of the documentation is based on Linux installs.

 

You'll also need plenty of time to invest in it. Ours has been constantly developed over seven years, but to get something up and running doesn't take long.

Can I also suggest if you're going to design the theme to use the Base responsive theme

I'd grab an old PC, reformat it and install a linux distro such as Ubuntu Server.

 

From there I'd use the install information on MoodleDocs - Installing Moodle - MoodleDocs

 

It's very easy to set up a basic Moodle. Tailoring it and using it on the other hand are what take the time and you need the buy in from the teaching staff.
