Smoothwall port forwarding

Could somebody please point me in the right direction, we are currently having a new telephone system installed

and the company asked for an internal IP and our public IP, no problem I gave them the details and made a reservation in DHCP.

 

All went well and the system is now up and running but they may need to connect remotely and have asked to create a port forwarding rule

so when the connect to the public IP it sends them through to the telephone system, the system is the UTM 1000 and as I have

never had to do it before I am in the dark a little.

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated please.

Be very careful about opening up your phone system to the world, phone systems if not correctly secured can by hacked quite easily.

 

What I would do if they need to remote in and change stuff have the software installed on a PC and then get them to connect to that via something like TeamViewer and then you can monitor it.

 

What many phone support companies do is dial in via the ISDN lines which only certain people will know the number for.

Its not a port I plan on keeping open, after setting up it would be enabled when required and disabled when not required, I can see where the settings are in the dashboard just not 100% on the settings required.

I am not familiar with Smoothwall but sure someone can help.

 

One thing get the IP they are coming in from just to add a bit more security, otherwise when it is open Joe Bloggs could port scan and possibly connect.

Should be a matter of using the port forward page on the networking tab to add a rule - TBH I can't remember the fields off hand, I think there's a dropdown to pick your external interface, then a "from" IP (that's *their* IP, leave it blank to begin with then tighten down later), the from port (this is the port they'll connect to), then internal ip/port combo (this is whats open on the phone system).
