Cant play DVDs when connected to a Splitter or PRojector - DRM Error / HDCP

Many of our rooms have a splitter and projector connected to them and staff use them to display DVDs to the students.

I want to use WMP to play the DVDs instead of VLC (As staff get confused etc).

 

When the monitor is connected directly to the PC is plays fine. But when a splitter or projector is attached it complains:

"Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card."

I understand that this is because the splitter or projector is probably not HDCP compatible?

 

Is there any workaround?

I actually found in the last couple of machines with this issue, replacing the DVD drive made a difference. Not sure why, but it did.

 

If you have one machine that works and one that doesn't, may be a quick way of testing by swapping the drives over.

Use a dual head graphics card instead of a splitter then you can do Split or Clone on the screens?

Usually it's the other way round - i.e. if you clone screens via a dual headed card the OS detects it and DRM kicks in (copy protection). Is this windows XP perchance?
