Odd behaviour with server

Our 2008 R2 AD server is exhibiting some strange behaviour.

 

Randomly, it decides to stop mapping some drives and you cannot RDP into it. It isn't totally unresponsive though as you can still sign in to the network, access shares using \\servername\share and it will respond to pings. You can also view the event viewer remotely so it is accepting connections.

Random firewall meldown? Is Windows Firewall turned on? What do the event logs for these time periods say?

Nothing helpful in the event logs. It seems to continue to be functioning as far as they're concerned, no errors or anything.

 

I'll check the Windows Firewall. It should be off, but I haven't checked recently, so I'll do that.

DNS? we have similar gremlins. Can you ping fqdn and machine name?

Use the "netsh advfirewall show allprofiles" command to check it is defo off
