Home office

Not sure if this is in the right section so move if need be.

 

I have just bought my first house and want to kit the small bedroom (3 bed house) out as a home office in a similar style to this but with cupboards around the top.

 

What I would like to do it make one of the top cupboards a network one, run the structured cable from around the house to it and put a switch and my router in there. My thoughts are make it well ventilated and then install some kind of rack rails in and plenty of ventilation, can you see any issues with it?

 

This is the kind of style I am thinking: this, this and this. Although a bit lighter and moderner!

 

Know its not brilliant but for home can't seen it been too bad.

How about getting a silent cabinet and mounting that in the cupboard? Or, line the standard cupboard with car audio sound proofing before fitting the rack mounts? Nothing worse than having the hum of switches\servers when you are at home! Look at fitting a NAS setup in there as well?

Was looking at silent cabinet but a bit pricey when I it's not going to be mega noisy, only 1 switch and a MicroServer which is near silent anyway.

 

Have got a NAS to go in, its mainly for the cabling to terminate.

not considering using power over ethernet stuff instead of running cable ?

 

only reason I ask is the obvious mess generated with the trunking and making of holes around the house, I did the same where I am now and wouldnt bother again, such a lot of hassle, you can get poe adapters that accomodate more than one ethernet cable now as well, some come with 4 port adapters

Do you mean homeplug's that you plug in your electrical sockets rich_tech?

 

If so I have considered but I'm not going to be just running data will be running voice and some analogue stuff over the cabling.
