[sims] Solus 3 and Multiple FMS Databases

Hopefully someone knows, with all the academy stuff going on!

 

Is there a particular how-to somewhere for setting up sites with multiple FMS databases on Solus 3? (3.6 here)

I never actually deployed an update to it (because we abandoned FMS when we became an academy) but I had the configuration as normal, except I had 2 FMS database targets set up. The only never really thought about was the connect.ini and logging into the different databases on the client (and only thinking about that now because I can't remember how it works).

I've gotten as far as adding a second database target with the relevant second database yeah, just not sure if the FMS database selector will continue to work. One way to find out

That's the bit I can't remember how you configure it - do you configure FMS-companies.ini and somehow alter your fmsconnect.ini?

 

I don't think Solus3 has the ability to distribute the companies.ini (but after it's been configured on a workstation once you shouldn't need to configure it anymore anyway hopefully...)

We use FDS to switch between different FMS databases. I've a fairly good knowledge about how it works. If it helps, I can send copies of our config files so you can see what they should contain?

We've got the FDS in place from before the SOlus install. As the FMS installs havent changed, they appear to work OK.

Hi All,

 

SOLUS3 does cope will with upgrading more than 1 FMS database. The highest number of FMS databases setup so far is 5. I do still use FDS to setup the icons and shortcuts. Would be interested to know if anybody else has managed to get the shortcuts issued via SOLUS3 yet.
