rad Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 (edited) I will hunt through threads shortly but having an issue with SIMs not working on a Win7 64bit PC using a Staff logon. Works fine on a admin account but SIMs tries to load and then doesnt, its as if it is running in the background. We are an RM site. Thanks Edit - Its affecting all Staff PC's rebuilt onto Win 7. Staff computers not rebuilt which run XP are running fine, so its not an issue with SIMs, more a permissions/build issue. Edited August 22, 2013 by rad
LukeC Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 staff require modify permissions of the sims folder on C:
Mcshammer_dj Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 have you tried to run the SIMSPERM batch file.
rad Posted August 22, 2013 Author Posted August 22, 2013 Warning - Stupid question alert! (new to sorting SIMs issues!) Am i right in thinking that Pulsar.exe is the SIMs program Simsload.exe is the program that checks for updates and then loads Pulsar.exe? If so, then Pulsar works fine but the simsload wont as it is trying to modify files but cant due to permissions. So Pulsar loads and allows staff to log into sims fine.
Mcshammer_dj Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 yeah Pulsar is sims access simsload looks at the settings in sims.ini (C:\windows) and then check the version numbers of the local exe's against the versions stored in the setups directory. If you take a look at SIMSPERM.bat (in the setups folder) you will see that you can run the batch file against a user or group to alow the file permissions required to update sims to be applied to the machines. and don't worry about being new to SIMS we all were at one time and lots of help can always be found in here
rad Posted August 22, 2013 Author Posted August 22, 2013 Cheers all. I will have another look tomorrow in between rebuilding the site!
matt40k Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Contact RM personally, hate when people buy RM for it's out of the box settings, then spend the time remove it rather then doing it the RM way.
FishCustard Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Contact RM personally, hate when people buy RM for it's out of the box settings, then spend the time remove it rather then doing it the RM way. Just to play devil's advocate: not everyone who manages a CC3/4 network made the decision to buy it, nor do they necessarily want it. They may also not have an active RM support contract, particularly if they're looking at moving to a vanilla network.
matt40k Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Doesn't matter, if you pay for something, use it and get the most value out of it. I don't like IBM but I make sure I get my moneys worth from their support - and believe me a lot worse then Capita or RM. Then when you come to renewal time your boss is more likely to listen to you then if you've been fighting them all the way. Otherwise all the RM sales person has to say is our support is awesome, we fix all our issues in 30 mins and we have 100% customer satisfaction for calls people log unfortunately we're not mind readers so you really need to report those issues that your saying your having then we can fix them and BAM, your locked in for another year. If your not in active support\RM licensed, then it's a not a RM network lol
rad Posted August 23, 2013 Author Posted August 23, 2013 We do have RM Support and also SIMs support. As the tech to the site I try and do the best i can but the NM does all sims related updates etc, I am the man on the ground people see. I have investigated as much as possibly but with 90 computers to install and the entire site to reimage to Win7 I have found the problem, found out what is needed but will get him to sort the tweeking as SIMs and server stuff is his baby. Yes I can sort but would rather he did it using a straight line than me going round the houses. I'll update with the answer to how we resolved it. I know its permissions on the sims folder on local c:
