We've also learnt that Google has struck a deal with UK retailer DSGi (also known as DSG Retail, and Dixons Retail) to sell the media streaming device exclusively through its Currys/PC World brand in the UK, both online and in-store.

ChrisH Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 I've had one for ages as well and mostly use it on my TV in the garage to have Netflix or YouTube videos on the big screen while I'm tinkering with my bike or doing some other project. I have also used it a lot to cast a Chrome tab from my main PC but the lack of being able to do that with my Nexus has been annoying. Plex will be a welcome addition.

Taken from their Play Store description: We've added support for Chromecast! Presume source computer needs to online. rickjames Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 I was going to link you to the deal Wuaki were offering of £23.99 delivered for a Chromecast plus a season of a TV show, took season 1 of Game of Thrones. Had mine a few weeks and love it, way easier than having to turn on the Xbox, fiddle around with the controller, signing in etc. Use it mostly for Netflix and MLB.TV which are great, shame I can't seem to get a workaround for sorting Hulu otherwise I'd be golden. It'd be nice if they offered support for NHL Gamecenter when the new season starts.

Google Drive Can Now Send Presentations to the Chromecast Bought one in haste last night (£30 not gonna break the bank). Found out this morning it won't work behind a proxy could root it and see if i can set/export the http_proxy variable. Didn't get chance to see how well the google slides presenter feature works. Will test this from an unproxied connection at home. Does anyone know if it is possible to add a transparent proxy behind a regular http_proxy (LEA connection is BGfL running symantec web gateway) can I add second layer of NAT behind NAT'ed router to fool chromecast into connecting out to the internet via a the LEA connection????? Was thinking of using google drive presentation as a poor man's digital signage with chromecast. Was going to host a VM to drive the chromecast. I'm not sure but as I think chromecast works by sending the instruction via google's cloud to open the presentation and render it locally therefore no screen mirroring or streaming required. Not sure how it handles animations. Could be that google's implementation of presentations keeps animations to a minimum anyway so it can be rendered in browsers reliably. Would have thought that mDNS traffic is for discovery only and therefore not a huge bandwidth hog as long as you are not using tab mirroring. Streaming video from a supported service would I presume use a similar amount of bandwidth as streaming from a computer. Edited September 11, 2014 by Alis_Klar

A little disappointed the NowTV app wouldn't work on my 'modified device', but looks like all of the Sky apps are the same. I don't have Sky or use any of Sky's services so this was news to me. I have a second promo code for NowTV, and doing some digging seems to imply I can apply this one after the 3 months is over and get another 3 free months. Not bad! Oh and a promo code for Hulu has appeared on my US CC! Hopefully more of these promos will keep popping up! I just wish the 90 days free Play All Access Music would work for existing/past users.
