Well, that's it, the teaching staff have left the building, let the madness begin ..

 

Starting with the internet radio link getting fixed just in time for the summer holidays (though, I'm looking on the positive side, if they botch it up big style, they have 6 weeks to get it going again! lol)

 

Then the moving of whiteboards / projectors / computers / etc, re-imaging all the iPads too and locking them down this time to stop people messing and leaving them in a "please enter your Apple ID and Password" state ..

 

Oh, and the fun one, the main hall projector - that's gone funny, think I might need to hire a scaffold tower for that - though I do have a nice A Frame Ladder in my lock up ..

my first day of summer work has gone quickly and well!

 

Ive stripped 3 classrooms of all IWB, computers, laptops and all other IT equipment.

 

tidyied cables and installed docking stations in three other classrooms.

 

Im doing all this by myself too!

2 IT suites stripped of computers and wiring ready for shiny-shiny stuff to go in (which should arrive today!).

 

Various ancient spinny chairs binned (it's great fun getting to chuck chairs onto a rubbish tip... hehe).

 

Now sorting out my Win 7 images ready for deployment. Not long until I get to sweep away CC3 in cleansing flame, muahahahahaha... *ahem*.

I'm trying to get a windows 8 tablet on to CC4.

 

2 days and I'm no closer than when I started. I can log in with a domain account, but thats it. No software, no files... hell I've only just managed to get a desktop.

 

I [censored] hate windows 8 and I [censored] hate RM!

Not tried installing much on a tablet yet - still using them as demo/instructional tools at the moment! Apart from CC4, how have you found it to use/install/lock down?

It's bad... so, so bad.

 

There's no easy way to shut it down once logged in, unless you use a keyboard [ctrl+alt+del > shutdown]

 

You can't just browse the c drive unless you open ie or control panel then change the path to c... some of my management software has arcane names I can't remember.

 

I haven't even got as far as trying to lock it down yet... it's pretty much unusable. It was stuck on an "attempting repairs" screen for an hour until I forced it off.

 

If I had a way of downgrading to 7 I would do it without hesitation.

 

Le EDIT: ctrl+alt+del just results in a green screen with a cancel/back button now as well... this OS is BS.

 

And I keep getting a "try again as an administrator" type error on both domain and local admin accounts.

@X-13 - you can browse Windows Explorer as normal on Windows 8, just type 'explore.exe' from the start screen, or click the 'Desktop' tile and then Explorer should be pinned to the taskbar.

 

EDIT: Sorry to ask a silly question, but this /is/ a Win 8 Pro tablet, rather than one of those RT wannabes, right?

It is Windows 8 Pro. I made sure of it before it was ordered.

 

There's nothing pinned to the taskbar on the desktop, and searching in tablet mode [no keyboard] is [censored] annoying.

 

Right edge swipe > "Search" > type... easy enough.

 

Change to files/[whatever the third option is], because it defaults to apps, annoying but whatever.

 

Search through results? Removes the text input and search options with no way of getting it back without starting again...

That sounds very odd. What model of tablet is it?

 

Might be worth reinstalling Windows (try using 8.1?), because all this does not sound like normal W8 behaviour!

 

How about this to get a file explorer window up: right click on the desktop, create a folder, open it?

Yeah that doesn't sound right at all. I was able to find Explorer quickly when I started Win 8 for the first time. Does the administrative menu help? (WinKey+X)
