FN-GM Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 Hi, I have never used ADMX files before but need to for Office 2013. I am looking at this guide - Managing Group Policy ADMX Files Step-by-Step Guide Under "To populate the central store" using a central store. Do I need to do this or can I just drop in the ADMX files I have downloaded for office. Also just to confirm this wont have an impact on the use of ADM files on the domain? Thanks
Michael Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 With Office 2010, it was just a case of copying the Office ADMX files along with the en-US folder into C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions on your DC. It won't change other policy files you have.

It won't change other policy files you have. This is exactly what I did as well but using the Office 2013 ADMX files

Michael Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 You only need the centralstore if using 2012 GPOs on 2008 R2 for example, as you can't overwrite existing Windows ADMX files. 1
FN-GM Posted July 17, 2013 Author Posted July 17, 2013 (edited) @Michael now i have put the files in there i can see them in the GPO but the rest of the policy settings (the usual Windows ones) are all missing. Michael Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 No that doesn't sound right I must admit.... what server OS are you using? 2012 or 2008 R2?
FishCustard Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 You need to populate the central store: copy everything (files and folders) from the %systemroot%\PolicyDefinitions folder on the server to the central store. 1

Some settings are different for some users than others. @FishCustard thanks for the tip. If i upgrade to another OS like Windows 8.1 would i just overwrite those files? @Michael Server 2012, only a handful of 2008 R2 boxes left.
