[sims] SIMS Migration to new Domain and Server

Afternoon all,

 

We're having a server refresh here which is in and running but not in use as yet.

 

I need to migrate the current Virtual SIMS Server (on Citrix) over to the new Virtual Servers (on Hyper-V).

 

The earliest that CAPITA can send anyone out is the end of September, which really messes things up here.

 

Does anyone know of an independent person who can do this for us or some detailed instructions of migrating SIMS to the new Domain and Server?

 

We are just running SIMS and the Document Server, no FMS or DISCOVER at this time.

 

All setup on Server 2008 R2 and SQL 2008 R2.

Set up the new server, then restore a backup of the citrix sims onto the hyper-v setup.

There are a number of threads here that will go into more detail, but really, that is it.

The only thing you might want to consider is if you want to take the opportunity to migrate to Windows and SQL 2012, which it seems like a good time to do.

In which case, get the current server up to Summer 13, then download the migration tools and guide from Capita.

If you really want someone to do it @John_Howarth on twitter is a consultant and more than capable i'm sure. Not sure of his EG handle, maybe i should be, just forgotten.

Sorry I've not been back to reply to this. We opted for a Physical 2 Virtual migration using the MS Hyper-V tools. This moved the server as a whole from our Citrix platform to the new Hyper-V platform. SIMS could not come in before mid-September. Everything has gone well and all is working.

@John_Howarth - I'm already following you on Twitter, but (if money allows) I'd like to get the SIMS, Discover and Solus sorted out properly on 2012. I'll get in contact nearer the time.

 

In the mean time thanks for putting yourselves forward in this stressful migration period. It's well appreciated.

I'm glad you got your servers successfully migrated to Hyper-V. I'm guessing you've not had much time off though over the summer!
