[ipad] iPad Mini, Apple TV and Airplay Screen Resolution

Wow, could this thread span a couple of forums!

Anyway, I have a quick question, that may involve a long answer. Basically, I were to do screen mirroring from an iPad Mini via a 3rd gen Apple TV (the new 1080p version), can I get the iPad Mini to output on a full HD TV at 1080p via the Apple TV bearing in mind the Mini has a res of 1024x768 i.e. can it upscale?

Or would I have to use a device that has a 1080p screen?

*Also, have any members here had any success in using Airplay from an Android device (using one of the myriad of Airplay apps for Android out there) via Apple TV for screen mirroring?

According to El Reg, the Mini's external resolution via either Airplay or HDMI is 720p.

Thanks for the answers so far. Does anyone know if you can output 1080p from an Android device via Airplay and have that mirrored without any issues?

What do you want to mirror? If you want to mirror apps that are on the screen, it will be limited to 1024x768. If you want to stream videos from it, the ATV should play them at the resolution that they're encoded at
