Server 2008 R2 DCPromo

Hi

 

We currently have two DC and I need to migrate one to virtual. I was thinking I would just create a new 2008R2 server. We are currently running 2008. Please can you tell me what process to start with. Plan is

 

Install new virtual server

Run Forest Prep and Domain Prep on the old server?

Move DCHP and DNS off the old server to the new server.

 

We have another DC running server 2008

 

Does this sound correct?

You need to update the schema on your existing 2008 Server. Then you can introduce 2008 R2, make it a DC and GC (DNS is included by default these days), then migrate DHCP afterwards.
