Silver Penny For New Parents On The Occasion Of Kate Middleton Giving Birth

There will be 2,013 of these coins struck. With the average babies born per day at around 2,000 it wouldn't take much of a variation to push the number born on that day beyond 2,013: Does this mean that some parents might 'miss out' on the unique opportunity?

Parents will have 60 days from the day of the birth to apply for a coin.

2,000 not 200.

Am I the only one wondering who is paying for this!

...I think I am going to be extra grumpy for the rest of the day...

Nice to know we are in such a strong financial position as a country that we can afford a pointlessly ostentatious gesture like this...

Wait a minute, I forgot for a minute, we're broke.

Who thinks up these ideas?

If they want to do something to commemorate the new arrival (although I can't see why) a better option might be to set-up a pension fund for the lucky few children. Maybe by the time they retire it will be worth something...
