[sims] See the key field

Hey,

 

Bit of a random question but is there anyway of running a report in SIMs that shows the key fields for students?

Do you mean primary key? Each student has a UID and these are invisible by default unless you add yourself to the permissions group for automated exports I think?

 

If it has been entered, you can also use UPN at a pinch.

There are a number of ID's you can use in SIMS but my favourite is Person_ID - it's unique, it's short and it's numeric (unlike External_ID which is unique but very long and alphanumeric).

 

To see it, you have to be in the "Third Party Reporting" group and then add it in to a report. You'll also notice that for every type of report you'll then see a "CES Third Party Fields" option, which contains ID's for all types of objects in SIMS and quite often the ID's of any directly related object (e.g. the aspect and resultset ID's when viewing a results report)

 

I'm unsure if any of these match up to the primary key used in the SIMS SQL DB, I've never checked because I never read directly from the DB, always through CommandReporter

yeah sorry primary key.

 

we had a biostore fingerprint system put in not long ago and I've been told by them that there "Person ID" number is taken from the primary key field in SIMs. I need the "Person ID" to link users to AD (by inputting into an AD field) but the Biostore database isn't populated until new students become "current" in sims. I want to input the "Person ID" when I create the new year 7 accounts but the new year 7's don't become "current" until the day before they start.

 

Rather than get our SIMs manager to change the year 7's start date on SIMs I was just wondering if there was an easy way to find what I was looking for.

I think you may have just cracked it.

the problem is the report is being made by one of my colleague and sent to me but I can't view the person id no in the report whereas she says she has put the field in while designing the report?? Can anyone help

If you don't have permission to use the field then you won't see it's contents.
