TLARWise Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 We are currently looking in to purchasing a batch of 70 IPad Minis for our teachers. We want to allow them free reign over app install, use of ITunes on their personal comps, etc so they will likely be using personal Apple IDs as such we can't use Apple Configurator to supervise them however we will be linking them in to Meraki. There may be times when the school will want to purchase certain apps using VPP which we will then deploy using Meraki. My question is as a Meraki deployed app requires an Apple ID to be entered to actually install the app on the IPad, if a member of staff uses their personal Apple ID at this point and then leaves at a later date (at which point we would delete the existing apple id and create a new one for the new member of staff the IPad is then given to), would the original app still be useable or would we need to purchase the app again (or use up another VPP code)?
SovietRussia Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 You are best off waiting for the new version of VPP coming. It allows for licenses instead of codes, and those licences can be revoked if someone leaves. 1
ass17 Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Currently in Meraki VPP codes that get assigned to iPads are assigned to the appleID that installs it and cannot be revoked. In apple configurator you can supervise the device to re-use VPP codes. We have the same issue, but are waiting for the change in VPP code licensing

Can I ask where (if) that's documented officially anywhere? - I'm not doubting you but the official line from Apple is vague at best.

tj2419 Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Does anyone know what happens to volume purchases made already? Would they stay like they are currently or be changed? If I did make a purchase shall I make sure that all purchases are installed with our volume account?

Robadob Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Thanks for posting that, Arthur. Does anyone know if the improved MDM process will require anything other than free updates on the server? All we need now is for Apple to release iOS7 and the related management tools before September so we have time to implement it before the new term starts!
