unixman_again Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Why have M$ decided to make the server 2012 o/s look like a phone? I found it quaint that they have a ModemLogs directory. I haven't seen a modem attached to a server for years. Come to think of it, I haven't seen a modem in use for years!

I've seen one suggestion of publishing various admin tools as remoteapps, and then accessing them from the start menu of a windows 7 host, but it's just more minutes wasted when all your trying to do is be productive from the get-go.

I think most schools will still run Server 2012 with a GUI, however for web applications it would be better to use Server Core.

ConradJones Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 You can still RDP into the server without a GUI. no rsat tools tho, all powershell or cmd-line i wouldn't mind it if Microsoft had any idea of how to be consistent throughout their different divisions, so you could make an educated guess at the cmd and/or the parameters you need to run. 99% of nix commands at least respond to --help in fact 99% compile and install from source with ./configure && make install i don't understand how microsoft as one company can be so inconsistent in comparison to 1000s of projects all created and worked on by unconnected people. sorry for the rant...

Use the RSAT tools from your desktop. I hard ever log into a server. I personally dont understand why people always log into the server to perform basic tasks instead of using remote consoles.
