I have finally got this to work

Thanks for the update. That's great news!

 

So I used my best friend Google and found an old installer for version 16.1.1450

There's also a download link for v16.1.1450 in post #64. The FileHippo one. ;)

 

extracted the msi and ran the install command with the original mst and license file that Arthur uploaded and it installed successfully.

Doesn't this imply that the first time you tried to install SketchUp Make 2016 it may not have been with the v16.1.1450 MSI? :confused:

It was definately a v16.1.1450 MSI as this is what it said when I went to Help > About Sketchup...

 

Anyway, it's working now and once again a massive thanks for you taking a lot of time to help me!

Can i ask what changed are actually made in the MST, just like to know whats changing.

Open the MST in InstEd, select the SketchUp MSI* when prompted and all of the changes I have made will be highlighted. :)

 

* Make sure the version of the SketchUp MSI you are using matches the version of the SketchUp MST. i.e. don't use the v17.2.2555 MST with an older version of SketchUp like v17.0.18899.

 

Not having any luck with the new MST, still asking for a licence when I open it...

Are you definitely using the latest SketchUp MSI?

What method are you using to deploy SketchUp?

 

SCCM, command line is msiexec /i "SketchUp2017-x64.msi" /q TRANSFORMS="SketchUp2017-x64.mst"

@Arthur I'm having problems with the MST too. I have successfully installed Sketchup 2017 (V 17.2.2555) but upon opening it does tell me I have a 30 day trial. Does the .lic file get copied over during deployment? What folder should it be in? I do have Sketchup 2016 installed still as a failsafe.

I'm having problems with the MST too.

I am not sure why I didn't think of it earlier, but I have come up with a completely different method of deploying the license file that has a far better success rate... an MSI! :)

 

I have attached an MSI below for every version of SketchUp Make. Can you try the relevant one and let me know if it works for you?

 

Note. Don't use the MST.

 

Edit. Should anyone want to generate their own MSIs I have also attached the WiX project files I created.

SketchUp Make has now been discontinued in favour of the web apps (SketchUp Free and SketchUp for Schools). :(

We know many of you rely on our free desktop version of SketchUp Make. That’s why you can continue to depend on SketchUp Make in its current build. Although we aren’t updating SketchUp Make this year – and we won’t be updating it in the future – it’s still available for download on our website or within our web app modeler if that’s your preference.

 

This is a big change to how we deliver free software, and SketchUp Free is definitely a new approach to 3D modeling. So, we do expect that a lot of people will prefer to stick with SketchUp Make, or upgrade to SketchUp Pro, to keep using SketchUp on desktop. That’s okay: but, we’d love to hear what you love and [gulp] loathe about our web modeler.

Damn the cloud!

Its just a PITA right? To use SketchUp for Schools you need a GSuite setup, which we don't have. To use mySketchUp you need an account which is irritating with primary age kids.

Currently we just click the icon and get working. *sigh*

Yes in the same boat as you in primary schools. Just a sign of the times with everything going to the cloud.

I've been asked to update SketchUp on our network and see there is a SketchUp Pro 2018 available to download on the 'SketchUp Product Downloads' page. Is it possible for someone clever to create a license MSI/MST?

Since Trimble discontinued Make and now only update the Pro version I assume you already have a suitable activation_info.txt containing your school-specific serial_number and auth_code?

 

If so, I'll see what I can do. :)

@Rob_C. I have attached the source code for an MSI I created that enables you to install the SketchUp Pro 2018 license your school purchased.

 

To generate the MSI make sure you have WiX installed first, overwrite or amend the activation_info.txt file in the 'Source' subfolder with the correct license details and then run the batch file called _Build.cmd. After a few seconds an MSI will appear in the Deploy\Releases subfolder. :)

 

Alternatively simply deploy your SketchUp Pro 2018 activation_info.txt file via GPP to '%ProgramData%\SketchUp\SketchUp 2018' so you don't need an MSI.
