[ipad] Paid App deployment

Can someone please clarify something for me.

 

We have 16 IPads which I initially setup as supervised using Apple configurator and then moved on to Meraki to handle the restrictions/app deployment. When it comes to paid apps I want to at least have the ability to reassign VPP codes should the need arise. As my IPads are supervised I understand this is possible, however do the apps have to be deployed using apple configurator to allow this or can they still be deployed using Meraki and still have the option to reassign a code at a later date?

It looks as though you have to use Apple Configurator to re-use a VPP code. When you install an app to a supervised device, Configurator marks the code as redeemed. Only Configurator on that machine can set that code back to unused. It would be in typical Apple fashion to only allow their software to do it!

Meraki can also do VPP deployment.

 

Find the app in the Meraki App finder window thingy

Import your VPP Codes into the window when it appears

And you are done!

 

You will have to type in the Apple ID passwords on the devices manually though to redeem.

When we were doing our iPad deployment, we did paid apps via Configurator and free ones can be done OTA, as we use Profile Manager and not Meraki.

I know it can deploy them. Can they be removed so the codes can be reused though? Without using Configurator.

No they can't the only way is to use Apple Configurator with Supervise mode.....
