[sccm 2012] Help me from pulling all my hair out...

This is really frustrating me, i've followed this to the letter:

using System Center 2012 Configuration Manager - Part 7. Build and Capture Windows 7 X64 SP1 - Configuration Manager 2012 - www.windows-noob.com

 

but it just won't pxe boot...it did it once yesterday then failed, but now i can't get it to go past the pxe screen where it does the connecting to bit, then skips to the abortpxe.com and skips pxe booting. It's like it doesn't recognise the machine I'm trying to boot, but i've manually added this machine by mac address in to the folder the task sequence is deployed to. Anyone know where I might be going wrong?

 

I've been using WDS quite happily for the past 2 years but i'd like to delve into SCCM OSD so if anyone here is quite savvy with it and doesn't mind being barraged with questions could you please pm me

You sure the mac address and guid are not in as another device?

This might sound like a stupid question, but where are those settings? I've been in and out of everything i can find related to this but I've never seen that specific window before.

 

EDIT: Ah just checked, my window looks different to yours? I just have a check box for "Make available to boot media and PXE" which is ticked.

Yep, I've tried randomly generating 3 different MAC addresses for my test VM and using all 3 of them fails.

@mrbios i think yours is different because you don't have SP1 installed. Installing the service pack does change these options.

I thought i'd installed it a while back but maybe i didn't, will do that now just to see if it resolves anything, cheers

We have had to rebuild our SCCM 2012 infrastructure to remove SP1.

 

SP1 introduces all the Windows 8 / Server 2012 stuff which is great - as long as your hardware is supported. We discovered some of our older Toshiba laptop estate just wouldn't play with the Windows 8 drivers built in to the WinPE4 environment and no decent drivers that would support them could be found.

 

OK, that won't be a problem in a year or two when they're retired, but for now...

If the PC started PXE and then failed, check in your Devices Collection for a device called "Unknown and then delete them..

Strangely enough installing SP1 improved my SCCM install 10 fold, everything now feels a hell of a lot smoother and after running through the same steps as i had done previously PXE started working perfectly. I reckon i might have broken something that installing SP1 might have fixed (I'd even tried resetting my site prior to installing SP1)...

 

Not to mention my past week of SCCM fiddling has taught me a hell of a lot about it and i now feel LOADS more comfortable using it. Everything just seems to make sense now
