timbo343 Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 I was wondering if anyone could suggest a good deterrent for cats in the garden. My garden has become a s*****g ground for the 8 cats in the area and oh, a making love place too. Not somehting i really want to see on a monday when ive just got up.
LosOjos Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 I'm tempted to say embrace the love lol but seriously, these noise generators seem to work although if you have teenagers/young children in the house they might not thank you (also some adults, depends on how sensitive your hearing is). Most people can't hear the tone, I can unfortunately: PestBye Battery Operated Cat Repeller - Ultrasonic Cat Scarer: Amazon.co.uk: Garden & Outdoors (NOTE: I haven't tried that particular one so can't vouch for it, just an example of what I'm talking about) 1
CESIL Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 A twelve bore? Or in my more extreme moments of rage (usually after I have run my lawnmower over a pile of sh1t...again) a Gatling gun controlled by an infra-red camera with image recognition software that can identify cats...and their owners who will never admit that their cat would leave it's mess anywhere but the litter tray! ...and breathe...

Sunnyknight Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 (edited) Why does that not surprise me? It SHOULD surprise you. I'm a very nice, heart warming person. Just enter my home and you'll remember the experience, for the rest of your life... in hell. Lie in wait with a pressure washer? LOL! Put it on the power option, would be funny. OR! OR! Get a fire-truck in your living room / back room and point the hose out the window. *Jumps onto window* *f off!* *Release water* WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE lol Edited May 15, 2013 by Sunnyknight

ICTDirect_Dave Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 a former neighbour of mine once told me why he kept a catapult on his window sill. 'The clue's in the name Dave' he said. 'A Catapult is for Pulting Cats!' And true to form he would spend evenings sat at the window with his Black Widow Catapult loaded with all manner of projectiles trying desperately to see off those pesky felines! Get yourself one of these... Barnett Black Widow Slingshot Catapult Kit + 1000 Ammo | eBay
AJWhite1970 Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 I take your cat problem and raise the bar... I've got a deer problem in my garden, about 100 Roe deer to be precise. Keep finding their way through the smallest gaps in or over the fence and eating the tips out of all my green plants. Bit spooky when you come face to face with one tapping on the glass and looking in your bedroom window at 3am!!!

I can't say anything else, but LMAO!!!
broc Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 A few years back a friend of mine woke to find a cow doing 'beast' stroke in his swimming pool. they needed a mobile crane to get it out.

AMLinington Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 (edited) Just greet them and offer food and drink. Don't forget the key ingredient... Posion. Oh wait........ that's what i do to visitors.... Might work for cats! I hope this was a joke - giving poison to someone's beloved pet and letting it die in agony is a horrible thing to do. Far better to scare it than to hurt it surely? As a Cat lover and owner of a cat, I no longer have the issue of cats using my garden as a toilet (when we bought the house it was disgusting) although my OWN cat likes to turd on the lawn... There are plenty of ways to discourage this - spraying with water is a totally fine and harmless deterrent but you might not always be there. Short of buying motion activated sprinkler systems plenty of garden centres sell cat and dog repellents that won't cause the offending animal to die in agony! Someone joked about Lion Poo but there is in fact a product our local garden centre sells that is impregnated with the scent of Lion dung. Take a trip to a proper garden centre and take your pick from a wide range of repellents. I had an issue where dogs would poo on my driveway - the problem with this is that dogs smelled the leavings of other dogs and used the area accordingly - the only way to fix this was to eradicate the scent markers which I did with a healthy dose of Jeyes fluid and bleach. Funnily enough I've not had any poo on the driveway since. Edited May 15, 2013 by AMLinington 1
Andrew_C Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 I like cats (my own) but have in the past used an IR triggered sprinkler with good effect to keep neighbours cats off the lawn. Quite good fun when the kids forget it is there too!
Poults Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Apparently throwing orange peel around the garden works as well.
