Dual boot with Suse 12.3

Has anyone managed to get Windows 8 to dual boot with Suse 12.3? Or any decent linux distro that matter?

 

After fighting (and losing) with the uefi boot manager I'm starting to thing that just wiping windows 8 is the only way forward!

There is a way to install Linux (Ubuntu or Mint) Through a Windows installer this then enables you to uninstall through add/remove programs in control panel without having to worry about your boot manager and it give's a full installation of Ubuntu or Mint! http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/wubi. I'd prefer Suse as ubuntu has been ruined with the unity interface. Might try Mint instead though as its been a long time since I installed that.

I thought that Wubi had been deprecated now?

I have Wubi (Mint) installed on my home Windows 8 Pro machine. I have no issues at all and it's easy enough to uninstall.

I tried Suse through the windows installer - and as soon as you reboot and select the Suse installer the Windows boot loader comes up with an error. It seems to be complete pot luck getting and flavour of linux to work with win8!

So far I've tried the following:

Suse - won't boot into the installer

Ubuntu - can boot and install but knackers the Windows 8 boot loader

Mint - won't boot into the installer.

 

This is on an HP laptop - using the boot menu to try and boot from DVD - it just skips straight to win8. I've dual booted lots of linux variations with Win7/Xp/98 in the past and I've never had so many problems! Perhaps its time win8 was wiped off the laptop completely

Epic failure for this project! My attempts to dual boot with win8 have seemingly destroyed my win8 installation (including the recovery partition) I reinstalled win8 from an iso downloaded from the MS licensing centre but of course that won't activate as it uses its own key rather than the OEM key embedded in the infernal UEFI!

 

So I've effectively lost my win8 license - thanks to another microsoft 'innovation' I've got no way of re-installing win8 on this laptop now other than buying another license (which ain't gonna happen) so I guess its proved one thing - if you want to dual boot - do it with windows 7.

When you are installing Win 8 are you doing the UEFI install? as it shouldn't be asking for the key as it pulls it from the UEFI Bios (Supposedly) or try this method How to Recover Windows 8 OEM Product Key Embedded in BIOS | Password Recovery Let me know how you get on

Yes I had it set to uefi during the install. I can't use any key finders now as my win8 partition was wiped out and the finders need to be run in the original os installation.
