Hi, There is a way to install Linux (Ubuntu or Mint) Through a Windows installer this then enables you to uninstall through add/remove programs in control panel without having to worry about your boot manager and it give's a full installation of Ubuntu or Mint! http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/wubi. The issue is the way the hard drive is booting. It's trying to boot into UEFI mode which most new laptops with Windows 8 installed come setup with. What you need to do is go into the bios and disable Secure boot then boot from Legacy Bios mode. If it's an Acer laptop then it will also allow you to boot from the .EFI File on the Windows 7 Disk this will then allow it to install. If you have any issues please let me know the make of laptop. Il also make a quick youtube video for you if you are still unable to get it to work.
