Microphone for Oral Exams

What microphones do your schools tend to use to record Oral exams?

 

Our MFL dept seem to be using headphones with mics attached. Placing these between themselves and the candidate. The sound quality produced is not the best.

 

Any recommendations?

We use digital dictaphones, far easier for mfl to manage, and seem to do a good job of picking up sound.

we also use mp3 recorders something like this or a cheaper version depending on your budget just click record and then transfer the mp3 files off afterwards

Sure thing, we bought two Olympus VN-8600 Voice Recorders, and I haven't heard from the MFL department since! Far easier than trying to use Audacity imo.

We have the Olympus VN-8500 and our MFL department love them, so easy to use, record away plug in and copy the files off.

 

Definitely the best thing we've bought and very very cheap too!

We've just started to use iPADs to record our MFL orals which actually sounded not too bad and the recordings are just e-mailed straight from the iPAD. Previously we've used Olympus MP3 dictaphones which were good but we were forever changing the batteries.

You will need to plug it in to a PC and use something like Audacity to record, bu the mic is a very high quality and can always be used elsewhere if needed

We used Blue Snowballs and they were great for the job, we even got a letter commending the quality and way we did them

Windows see's them as a USB mic, you may have to make a small change in the recording devices properties from a 1 channel mic to a 2 channel mic so it see's both mics on different channels in audacity
