[android tablet] Best Nexus 10 Remote Desktop app?

Morning my lovelies.

 

One of my friends has tasked me with building him a home theater set up - PC, TV, speakers - and one of his requests was that he be able to control his machine through his wife's Nexus 10.

 

It looks to me like the top three (free) options for remote desktop are Splashtop 2, PocketCloud and TeamViewer. Has anyone got any experience/thoughts on which one is best to go for, so I don't have to waste valuable drinking time trying out different options on build day?

We get staff to install PocketCloud on all their Android and Apple devices for RDP access to work. No complaints as yet in over 6 months of use. The free version only allows one RDP connection to be configured at a time and a couple of advanced features (mainly screen res) are only available in the paid for version but all in all, the free version works fine.

I use Jump Desktop on my galaxy tab, it's brilliant.

@AJWhite1970 - what are the screen res limitations? This will only be to connect to one PC on the LAN that will be running at 1920x1080 on the TV. If the limitation is that it can't switch, fine, if it's that it won't support above 1280x720 it could be an issue!

On my copy running on a 7" Zoostorm it will support up to 1280x1024

PocketCloud and Jump are the 2 I use. Went pro on Jump ($2 sale) but both great free.

I quite like the 2X Remote Desktop app (supports both RDP and the 2X protocol). Free and available on both iOS and Android.

Also check out XBMC and XBMC remote (android/idevice) for home theater. I use it at home and its great, its more of a smart remote for xbmc which allows you to flick through your library and pick something to play from a list (even while something else is playing). It also supports limited DNLA playback from android and airplay (idevices), so you can stream playback of content from device to the telly.

 

Also WOL (I use WOL Wake on Lan Wan, on Android), no nasty having to get up to switch the machine on for me
