Office 365 Public Folders

I'm in the process of migrating our Exchange 2003 box to Office 365 Exchange. With the recent update, Public Folders are now available within O365. We have a couple of folders in our legacy system that would be useful to move to Exchange Online. I've managed to create the folders via the EAC, but unfortunately there isn't a migration process available for our mail-enabled folders.

 

After a bit of searching I've found advice such as:

 

At present, the feature that migrating public folder from on-premise to Office 365 is not available.

 

As a workaround, you can add the on-premise account and Office 365 account into Outlook client, then move the data in on-premise public folder into Office 365 public folder.

However Outlook 2007 only allows one Exchange mailbox per user, does anybody have any ideas how I can achieve this?

Copy everything into a folder in a Local .PST using your normal account, then setup Outlook again with your O365 account and copy from the local .PST to O365.

I would advise you to ensure that you make use of Equipment Mailboxes, Shared Mailboxes, Room Mailboxes going forward and step away from Public Folders, Just because the feature is back in Exchange Online I would ensure you look at changing processes so that you don't rely on public folders!

 

Ensure that if you have SharePoint you consider using this for content collaboration and not public folders. :-)

As Microsoft (for years!) have been guiding everyone away from Public folders, Can anyone please recommend any ideas to replace the way that we use Public Folders?

 

We have a script that adds 3 mail enabled public folders to all staff members outlook. These are used for "Urgent Staff Notices", "Heads Notices" and "Daily Bulletins"

These are available there and then to everyone from within Outlook at a quick glance as they are always there at the top left in outlook.

 

We didn't want staff to have to loads any webpages or log into any other system, we just wanted them there straight away without any additional work at a glance!

 

Does anyone please have an alternative suggestion please?

I would rather avoid the Microsoft exchange/O365 hybrid PS1/CSV PF solution!
