CAM Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Looks interesting, a bit like a social network for your car's fuel tank. Fuelly | Share and Compare Your MPG 2
webman Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 I've been using the site for a while, it's a good way of tracking your MPG and any other vehicle-related events/issues/maintenance This is me: craigrodway's profile | Fuelly
dany2010 Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Yep. Have been using it for a while too. 55MPG on the motorway from my 1.9d car . Theres 5 mpg difference between driving in the winter an summer.
rich_tech Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 nice site, im interested to know how my Vectra is performing and is its fuel economy normal so now I can compare Thanks
sonofsanta Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 I saw it in someone's sig the other ady on a car forum as I tried to find a guide in replacing the headlamp on my Fiesta (good of Ford to leave that out of the booklet) I would sign up, but I can't be bothered to port over all the data from the spreadsheet I've kept for two years, sad git that I am best month so far: August 2012, average of 75.79mpg over 1,583 miles. Yes, I drive like a grandad.
dany2010 Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Another nice feature is you can search for car make and models and find out their mpg. Our other techs rx8 gets the same mpg as a Nissan gtr. About 10-15mpg.
unixman_again Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 55MPG on the motorway from my 1.9d car . Lucky so & so! I used to get that from my 1.7d Corsa, and 47 around town. Box on wheels and not very aerodynamic. I've got a Kia Picanto now, 1l petrol. Kia claim 63mpg, I get 30-35 around town and 40-45 on the motorway. This site shows I'm not alone.
CAM Posted May 2, 2013 Author Posted May 2, 2013 It will be interesting to compare mine as the '98 Astra has the worst MPG in the entire list for that model. No prior tracking to start from though, never followed my MPG much.
tmcd35 Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Great link, I'll think I'll use it. Be better than my monthly back of envelope estimations. I think I'm getting around 45mpg at the moment out of my 1.9L diesel, doesn't sound too good to me!

You could rev the nuts of it and still not go over the speed limit. Every overtake was a mission. 1.9d with 130bhp means you never need to rev it to get anywhere, diesels turned me into a old fart driver as it rarely goes over 3k revs. Will be 165bhp soon but should increase the mpg further when you don't boot it. http://www.fuelly.com/driver/dcuk6/fabia-vrs
webman Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Theres 5 mpg difference between driving in the winter an summer. Something to do with the fuel additives for the colder weather, apparently.
michael2k6 Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Have to say I've driven an RX8-R3 for about 8 weeks and averaged about 15mpg. I had an Alfa Romeo GIulietta Cloverleaf and that was doing about 25mpg combined (1.8T) and I now have an insignia VXR - 2.8l Turbo V6 by far the most powerful and heaviest and it's getting 32mpg combined. Baffles me.
Brucy Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 Theres 5 mpg difference between driving in the winter an summer. If it's a VW they also have an auxiliary heater (which runs on diesel) to help warm the engine up quicker
CESIL Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 I can't see any details of what engine the cars have...or am I missing something obvious? There are several of our car on there with very different mpg figures but as I don't what engine I can't compare with my car..
webman Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 I can't see any details of what engine the cars have...or am I missing something obvious? If you view the page for the car, under the name, it should tell you what it is. E.g. for mine, it says: "2004 Skoda Fabia vRS • Diesel L4 Hatchback (Manual)". Some of the car-related fields are optional, so you may be unlucky with the ones you're looking at.
TheCrust Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 Theres 5 mpg difference between driving in the winter an summer. It's not just about fuel additives (though that is a factor). In winter your car's engine takes slightly longer to warm up to optimal - so stays in "cold start enrichment" mode slightly longer. For old farts like me, it means the automatic choke stays on longer, uses more fuel. Also in winter, you are putting more load onto the electrical system with your headlamps, heated screens, heated seats, stereo and goodness-knows-what that the alternator has to accommodate, putting more load on the engine to charge the battery back up and using fuel it doesn't use in the summer months.
