[sims] FMS database selector.... anyone use it?

Hi guys

 

been setting up this database selector to allow the school two have two FMS databases. bugger me it looks straight fwd and was until i try and login. i have the "original" FMS database and a "new" blank one. i have installed on 4 machines, which include 2008 sever and 3 Windows7 machines. However no matter which database i try and login to it just loads the original database, apart from on just one of the the 4..... which happens to be the only 32bit machine... any advise chaps or is that my issue... does not work on 64bit

We use it on 64bit. How are you using it? Can you tell me the process you're using to select the database?

I installed this onto a 64 Bit the other day and I'm pretty sure it worked. I'll check it out tomorrow. Have you tried copying the config over from the working machine to the other? I'm pretty sure it's just an INI file with the database names in.

OK well i have the two databases attached and i can access both by editing the ini file. i ran the FMS database selector and completed the steps. it made a master ini file on the SIMS drive, so all can see it, that appears to work as if i change the database name that updates. it works on the one machine, the others ignore the selection and load the original database..

Something very odd going off, I admit.

 

Check your SS_FMS_COMPANIES.INI is correct. Then, try to sign in to a database that isn't your standard one. Then check your SS_FMS_COMPANIES.INI. Ours keeps resetting the database names to be the same, even though they're different companies.

Ours is doing the exact same. Only loading the first database.

glad im not alone, that was what it was doing for me at first, changing the ini file to the same database.

 

odd it works fine on 32bit machine, but the 64's i just get the same database

Do you have that INI file on each machine? We point to a shared one on our S:\ drive. It's really odd.

yeah just a shared one on the "S" drive.

I was experiencing this problem last week on a number of machines. I managed to fix it by finding a machine where it was working properly and copying the entire FMS folder (C:\Program Files\SIMS\FMSSQL) and then using it to overwrite the folder on the faulty machines. Once I had replaced the folder the DB selection started to work properly.

i could try that, i did try coping the ini files, but that did not do the job,

Our usual problem usually relates (I'm not sure its your problem, but perhaps worth a look) to the fact that FDS wants to write the FMSConnect.ini to the FMS directory, but windows 7 doesn't like that, so creates a writeable area called 'virtual store' which it then magically behind the scenes uses instead of program files regarding the writeable content.

 

Capita seem to switch between storing FMS in finance and FMSSQL directories. We usually find it best if we have problems to delete both and reinstall again, checking that the SIMS.ini in windows is pointing to the right location.

 

For the virtual store, have a look in C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\SIMS\Finance. You may need to look in program files (x86) and indeed FMSSQL rather than finance.

ALL working, replaced the finance folder on the local drives with the one that worked and hey presto! cheers guys!

Are you saying you replaced the file called Finance in the virtual store? *confused*

 

Or the FMS folder?

replaced the Finance folder from c:\proggy files on the machines with issues from the pc that worked.
