Smudged text on PC screen

The text on my PC screen looks smudged. Is there any solution for this. I have tried to correct it from the color management tab but to no avail. All suggestions appreciated

This could be a number of things - are you running in the native resolution for your monitor? Do you have ClearType turned on?

I am not very technological what do you mean by native resolution? I think it is 1024 x 768 (if i am not mistaken) Should Clear Type be turned on? I have encountered the phrase previously but don't know how it should be set. If its not a problem can you send me a couple of solutions so I will try them out?

Your monitor has a 'native' resolution - the one which the manufacturer designed it to work at - using a different resolution will result in oddities. 1024x768 would indicate a pretty old screen now. What monitor is it you've got (make and model)?

 

ClearType should be on - you can configure it by going into Control Panel, clicking 'Appearance and Personalization', then 'Make text and other items larger or smaller', and now click 'Adjust ClearType text' on the left. You can tick and untick it the option shown, and the text will adjust on screen so you can choose which looks best. You then go through and 'tune' the monitor with the tool and it makes the text look best. This will only be of any real use if you're in the right resolution though.

Thanks for the suggestions you made. The monitor is NEC if I am not mistaken but don't know the model (this is a class PC) I will try the suggestions you sent today week because it is the only day I visit the school.

Do you have any VGA/DVI extension leads connected between the monitor and computer?

 

I have found some leads cause more ghosting/blurry text than others

That's possibly your issue. Do you have a single VGA running in to multiple?

If you mean connected from the monitor to the tower & IWB then all boards are connected in the same way but only this board is like that. Thanks I will try the suggestions you gave me and I will let you know.

My money would be on a damaged VGA cable, try replacing it.

 

If not try unplugging the VGA splitter and just run the monitor on it own.

thanks for your suggestions. You are very patient I really appreciate that. Today I found the time to visit the class with the PC problems and tried all the suggestions you gave me but to no avail. I think you are right when you said that it is a damaged VGA cable. I will try to buy a new one when I get the budget.

A lot of monitors have something called a 'clock' or 'phase', which can make letters look smudgy if set wrong.

Don't ask me how to set it 'right'. I have no idea what the criteria for 'right' actually is. But tweaking it often helps letters look sharper.

Are you using a VGA splitter? Sounds like a dodgy cable. A cheap cable will get the job done but might break again. Search for a mid range one. Edited June 3, 2013 by Alkaline

just swap it with another pcs cable for now see if it helps before you buy anything

If you are using a splitter you may need male to female for the main connection (PC to splitter)

I've had this with a whole batch of PC's, none connected to VGA splitters, they were obviously just supplied with terrible quality VGA leads. Changing for any other cable solves the problem

Does the colour on the IWB look more clear when you changed the VGA cable?

Change your VGA Cable. the cable that comes for monitor and goes to your CPU. The blue coloured adapter. the smudges will vanish.

As other people have said simply test with another VGA cable from another classroom that you know is fine to see if its the VGA cable.
