Does anyone have any spare IPv4 addresses to buy or know where I Can get a /21 ?

Why do you need a /21? That is 2046 public routeable addresses.

 

For that sort of thing, you'd need to speak to RIPE, but they are in their last /8 and the restrictions on new allocations are severe.

There's no way you'd be able to get a /21 these days. The RIPE NCC are only allocating /22s (1022 public IPs) to Local Internet Registries (ISP, large institutions, etc). Not even they can get more than that in one go, no matter what the justification.

 

It is rather worrying how close to the edge we're getting with IPv4 exhaustion with seemingly little being done about it.

 

In other news: what do you plan to do with 2046 public IPs?!

Well we are an ISP, so - we need them for customers. I was just enquiring just incase someone had a spare range!

 

We have an IPv6 range but we can't use it at present and I've only ot a couple of IPv4's left!

I'm afraid not they are like gold dust. I'd suggest putting up an advert on RIPE's resource transfer page. There are also some brokers but you'll have to pay top dollar to get a range.

I think the DWP has about 16.7 million they're not using... But they've rules out selling them on for some reason. They've be able to make about £1bn for them if they did!

Sorry, it was one of those days today - I hadn't thought that maybe you would indeed have a good reason to want a truckload of IPs.

 

I'd go for RIPE's resource transfer system, probably the cheapest way to get the things.
