Anyone noticed a rash of toolbar browser hacks recently?

I must have fixed about 15 of them in the last few days. I have no idea where its coming from but both in school and friends at home have had the same problem with "Babylon" toolbar and another one called "WiseConvert".

Someone mentioned it was something to do with the flash install but not seen it myself.

I think the flash update tries to install the Ask toolbar...

Java tries to bundle the Ask toolbar with it and has it ticked by default. Says it all really, since Oracle took over it!

I knew I had seen Ask somewhere recently... ;)

A lot of the 'free' gubbins on the Internet - usually rubbish that promises to speed your PC up or clean it of infections - comes with Babylon as a payload. PITA as it can be difficult to get rid of completely sometimes depending on what it's bundled with. I've seen a few problem cases with it and its variants. Edited by tech_guy
