Laptop Network adapter priorities wifi / hardwire

Strange one this, windows 7 on an asus laptop (x53e) The wifi always takes precedent over the wired connection.

I've tried the usual tricks (advanced settings / adapters and bindings) as well as changing the auto metric to no effect, only way to get the wired connection working is to disable the wifi.

This is pretty much the case for any notebook or netbook (as far as I'm aware).

Hmm the only way I know is to change the order in Adapters and Bindings, if that's not working then I can't see another way of doing this

you could always bind the connections.

Still doesn't make sense as to wifi gets precedence, surely a fast nic should be a higher priority ? strange behaviour!

We used to have this problem when we first installed Wireless N and still had 100Mbps wired connections.

 

The NIC with precedence seemed to be the fastest one, as the wireless was variahble (it dropped below 100Mbps now and then) it would switch between the two.

 

Not an issue now we have 1Gbps wired connections - they are always the boss

Well the order the adapters are used should respect the order set in 'adapters and bindings', however it appears the OP has tried this.

Yep its just ignoring me, I can't really ask the owner to manually switch the wifi off when in the building as really it should be automatic, especially with a 1Gbps wired connection, I've seen some scripts on a quick google but that seems overkill! work dammit!

You could try manually assigning priority metrics to the interfaces like this guy did: Windows 7 - Why is the Network Adapter Priority ignored while - Microsoft Community

 

I don't know if this worked as I haven't tested it.
