Wall mounted projector recommendations.

Now that the Hitachi ED-A220NM is now EOL, what projectors are people fitting for about the same price bracket ?

 

Also what wall plates are people using ?

 

This is for a new build so cables can be hidden behind the wall (the visionaudio plates seem nice) Will need HDMI, vga and sound (also speakers)

I had a dig about on their site the other day, seems like no ED prefix projectors anymore?

The CP-A222WNM seems to be current according to the site.

 

The new build isn't ready till the end of the year and I've just been asked to spec stuff up, but in the world of ever changing projectors it's hard

I don't know room heights or construction type yet!

Yup seems it's the CP-A221 and the 222 guess the previous ED prefix was for education.

I head the new audio visual department here at Very Pc, We work closly with hitachi with regards to Audio visual products..

 

Basically as far as im aware the mounts which come free withthe CPA222 are the same as the ones that came free with the EDA222.

 

BUT im unsure if the mount had any update made to them,having said that the projectors should fit on the same mount as the casing isthe same.

We use the CP-A222 and its a very good projector. It has lots of interfaces and options and the image quality is excellent

I've been using Epson projectors recently. The EB-470 is very good. It comes with a wall mount which is excellent - one of the best I have seen in terms of adjustability once installed.

It also comes with a 3 year lamp warranty and a 5 year hardware warranty which is pretty hard to beat at the moment. Especially when it costs less than £700 (if you shop around)

 

The projected image is very bright, clear and has good colour reproduction.

It also works with Epson's iProjection app which allows you to replicate your iPhone/iPad on the projector via wi-fi without any additional hardware.

 

Combine that with a vision tech-connect amp and ceiling speakers and you have a very neat and professional install.

I use VGA, HDMI, and audio for the wall plate. You don't need a plate behind the projector, in fact I would discourage it. Often with new builds the cabling will be done by contractors so if you have specific requirements you need to get these in to them - it may already be too late? Or you could discus it with the site manager?

Also there could be a floor box involved (for a lecturn) so I've fed another audio and vga to that - hopefully it'll look neat.

Yep there's already been confusion with the M&E QE, this is going to be a fun build (and I'm not even a manager ;p)

We've used the NEC U250x ultra short throw before - but the replacement is a little more expensive compared to the Hitachi we now use. I'll have to find the exact model.

The trouble with using a face plate behind the projector is that you'll be able to see all the plugs and cables that are connected to it, which could end up looking worse.

 

You could consider having the cables come out of the wall above the false ceilng (assuming the new room has one - and most schools do) then all you would need is a short length of flexible trunking coming through a neat hole in the ceiling tile above the projector mount.

 

I would take a good look at the mounts for the projectors you are considering and see if they have any form of cable management that you can use to minimise the amount of visible cables.

it was the CPD27WN we used - although not on a wall mount. It has lots of inputs including HDMI and USB for 'PC less presentations'. There's a wireless option too.

 

I reckon a Commerical 50" Plasma would be 15 to 20% more cost.

I don't think I'm even allowed to pierce the ceiling! Hence the wall plates.

 

Plasma could be an idea, seen a 60" for 1k, not sure if it'll be big enough?

I'm sure the hitachi wall mounts - just we didn't use it like that.

 

We compared a 50" widescreen plasma to a 64" Smartboard 660 and the difference was actually minimal, given square vs widescreen etc. I guess it depends on what size image you want!
