Wireless Bridge

We are looking at installing a wireless bridge to connect our Headmaster house to the College network, distance over a cricket pitch. I was going to test a draytek AP700 with external antenna but have come across the Ubiquiti Nanostation M5 THESEwhich appears to be similar overall price.

 

Has anyone used these before? Am i understanding correctly that i plug them into the network, set an IP and off they go.

I am using a couple of PowerBridge M | Ubiquiti Networks, Inc. at home over 2 miles and getting 75+ meg solid connection (300 meg according to the boxes, but only using it for 75 mg broadband connection.) good price and very reliable and easy to set up.

TP Link do some wireless outdoor access points and they are supposed to be good, not had an experience myself but worth a look, not badly priced either.

2 mile range - are they legal in this country?

Sounds very interesting for NMs living withing range of their school if they are

Yes they are legal they still fall with in the 5ghz range so no extra licence needed. They do need good clear line of sight.

The M5s will do the job perfectly. They are designed for the job, dozens deployed and get 6 miles out of them.

Dont waste your time or money on anything else unless you need more speed.

We use a couple of sets of these to get network connections to some of our more distant buildings. A breeze to set up and work flawlessly. You can't go wrong for the price.

You have the ability to reduce the power level to one that suits your coverage need anyway. You will love them.
