After much deliberation as to which web filtering to use I have decided on Smoothwall UTM 1000, the deal we got offered today was just to good to turn down, I decided to go for the UTM 1000 as it can then also replace our existing Cisco ASA 5505 firewall at the same time.

I do have one question though at the moment we had to pay for a licence for up 25 concurrent VPN connections with the Cisco, can anybody please tell me if it’s the same principle for smoothwall i.e. require additional licences to create the concurrent VPN’s ??

Cheers

Stan.

Im not too sure about your VPN license question but we were in the same boat about 6 weeks ago, we too replaced our ada5510 firewall with a UTM 1000.

Where did you get the smoothie from? Was it from smoothwall or your LEA? Either way, your supplier should be able to tell you. I know with my LEA, i think its unlimited.

I got it through the YHFGL they are looking into it for me so hopefully will know soon, as for the LEA they don't do anything for us they sent us an email last week and in not so many words was as follows "there will no longer be any support to schools from 8th April 2013".
