Pipe to sound card

any one piped wave files directly to a sound card?

 

obviously the header would have to go and it would have to bit the correct bits per sample, channel count and sample rate, interleaved or not.

 

but has one done it, can it be done?

ended up modifying the sample from libsamplerate loading the snd file with libsndfile, writing to stdout and pipeing that aplay from alsautils

Hm - what's wrong with sox - last I looked you could poke samples at it on teh commandline
