VPN Connection in Vista Business

As anybody got any suggestions to fix this problem........

 

I access a VPN server at school running W2k3 using Routing and Remote Access. From XP Pro this works fine with no problems, however using Vista Business and setting the connection up exactly the same with the pre-shared key etc.... it will not connect to the VPN server.

 

Everything is going through the same router, Windows firewall is disabled on both machines, i've disabled the firewall on the router for testing and it still will not working.

 

I've added the registry key AssumeUDPEncapsulationContextOnSendRule as I had to do in XP for it to work correctly and still nothing.

 

I'm out of ideas!

i have had no problems with VPN in vista

We've seen the odd vista problem solved by using an IP address for the vpn server rather than a domain name. Worth a go, perhaps.

I've tried both domain and IP and neither will work.

Have you checked the server logs ?

 

Vista may, for example, be using an EAP method that the server doesn't recognise. We use EAP stuff for our wireless authentication, and found that Vistas settings were all moved around under silly menus.

 

Can you be sure the Vista Firewall isn't set to block it, there must be a way to bypass or disable the firewall (temporarily).

Also I don't think PPTP is supported in Vista (You need to support L2TP and/or IPSEC on the server end).

I appreciate this is something of a T&C issue but I'm trying to get hold of the latest Cisco VPN Client now that I have to use Vista (new laptop with no other drivers ) but all the versions I have access to result in an install error and no amount of google-ing provides relief.

 

Unfortunately all the LEA tech support contacts I have are on holidays so I can't get the latest version. Can anyone help? This is proving to be a pain in the patookis.
