[ms office - 2010] Default Paper Size?

Hi all - I'm sure the answer's 'no' but is there any way to set the default paper size for all Office applications? They're set right on the shared printer server-side but clients stubbornly print letter and changing paper sizes is proving too much for staff and kids.

 

Can this be done though?

 

Is there actually a better way to do what I'm trying to do?

right click on the shared printer on the print server --> properties --> advanced --> printing or printer defaults and do the same in the printing preferences on the general tab ref paper settings.

 

Also double check on the printer itself to set the default paper sizes / orientation etc for each of the trays. For MS Office may be able to setup a default template possibly ref paper size / orientation / fonts etc ??

As I remember, the paper size in Word, is stored in the Normal.dotm file.

 

Manually, this can be set by going to: Page Layout > Size > More Paper Options, selecting the appropriate paper size, and then using "Set As Default".

 

As the Normal.dotm file is automatically rebuilt if Word detects that it's corrupt/missing, I don't think that you could push a copy of a modified file across all your users using GPP, etc.

Hi guys - yeah done that stuff to death already. Printer paper size is changed to A4 paper from toilet paper or whatever in pretty much every page, console and menu the thing has.

 

Normal.dot I've not changed, but I'm sure that is actually a legit method to do and change stuff with in Word, but my problems aren't unique to Word itself so I've not changed that. GP does everything I've wanted so far anyway.

 

GAH bloody PRINTERS! :'(

Re do the shared printer On the server

 

1. Un-share current printer

2. Make all relevant changes on the printer on the print server ( both in printing prefs and printer defaults under advanced tab ). As well as anything else you want

3. Change the share name to something other than what it was and make the share name one word ie no spaces, use an underscore(s) if required or uppercase letters to make it easier to read

4. Re share with any additional drivers if required and push the printer out to the clients again ( whether via script, push printer connection exe, GPP or however you are pushing them out to your clients )

 

Test again

 

If that works you can remove the previously added printer easily enough so you don't have duplicate printers or un used printers so not an issue

Could this be your regional settings set to US format (Letter), rather than UK format (A4) on the local PC? Your applications may be using this this during new page creation.

Heh, nowhere until the kids go away and the room in question's free. That might even get shelved until Easter. :/ They can print alright from Word as far as I know, but Fireworks and Publisher are being all daft.

 

HP CP4005 is doing the dirty, 2k8r2 server, win7 64bit clients. Latest drivers ofc.

Not really a solution - more a work around I suppose but a PDF Writer of some description to convert said document(s) into pdf and then print the pdf ?

Haha yeah that's my current 'go to' workaround for if %job% needs printing yesterday or anything. It sucks though, this should work right and I'm not sure why not.

 

Out of time today, but got two solid avenues of approach here, so I'll be trying those out.
