BT Touting for SWGfL Business

I received a call from a BT Marketing chap this morning telling me SWGfL were putting their prices up and BT were interested in competing for their business. Anyone know what the score there is - we certainly haven't heard anything about a price hike from SWGfL yet?

I'd be careful. We have had a couple of companies saying they were from OpenReach or were another arm of BT looking at making our prices more competitive or looking at taking on our bushiness from BT. When we got on to our BT account manager he said it was a company trying to get their foot in the door of the telecoms game any way they could.

Funny...i got a call today as well. Intriguing...will do some nagging of SWGFL and let people know; althought it will vary in the different parts of the area by LEA...

This is worrying, RM have dropped their prices to SWGfL, are those savings not being passed onto schools by the Grid? We are looking to go RM direct.

The main cost with SWGfL connections isn't the RM side I'd guess, its the 'last mile' part. So, for me that would be a BT fibre, for some schools in Bristol that'd be a Virgin fibre etc...

 

So, i'd say that even if RM have dropped their prices, its entirely possible that one of their last mile providers have increased theirs.

 

That said, easiest thing to do is simply contact SWGfL and find out.

Thanks, will do, although I checked at the RM BETT stand today and not only does their pricing look very cheap but it does include the last mile and the router plus the install and support stuff.

Oh, I didn't mean it isn't included, I mean that the pricing that RM/SWGfL give will be made up of various costs to them as an ISP, and of those costs the last mile will be the main cost to them, therefore even if RM were reducing their own costs, BT or whoever could be putting their bit up and therefore the end customer could see an increase in price at some point.

 

But as I said, contacting them is the best way to find out what is going on.
