Hi there,

we have around 100 Chinese boarders at our school and they're requesting access to several sites: qq.com, yy.com, baidu.com & tudou.com.

Some of these sites have SkyPe style software which they can use to contact folks and friends back home and this is where I an having trouble.

Access to the internet for is PC -> RM Smartcache -> Sonicwall NSA240 -> WWW

Basically if we take the qq software which is called Tencent QQ, I can get this to access the internet when bypassing our Smartcache box and go straight to our Sonicwall. There is nothing within the Smartcache logs to suggest anything is being blocked.

Strangely though, the software has an option to enter proxy details but even when you enter the correct proxy details and hit the test connection button, it says that it has failed to connect. A browser connects to the web fine but the software to me seems oblivious to whatever proxy settings are in place.

I'm banging my head against the wall with this as we're getting a lot of pressure from the parents of the chinese kids to get these working.

Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers

Can you test to see at which point that the software can't connect?

If you can provide a link to it perhaps a few of us can test it in various conditions/network locations for you?
