Morning folks,

In the very near future we are getting some android tablets for students to use. We already have iPhones, iPads which the SMT use. These are currently un-managed but with the addition of the Android devices I am thinking we are going to need an MDM. Now I’ve done a bit of research and looked at the ones mentioned on here in previous posts. However none seem to offer me what I want and I am hoping that somebody may be able to help me find one that does. I’m after the following from an MDM:

• Ability to manage all platforms, (iOS, OS X, Android, Windows, Blackberry)

• App Management

• Enforcing use of passcodes etc.

• Ability to ‘push’ firmware upgrades to them

• Remote wipe

• Asset & Inventory Management

Cheers

We use Meraki here for our iPads am am very happy with it, but I wouldn't be confident using it for Android. I use it at home to manage our family devices, and my wife's Galaxy S2 constantly stops talking to the Meraki servers. Every time I remove and re-add it, it will stop checking in a few days later. Meraki support haven't been able to track the problem down, and it never happens on my HTC One X.

We use Meraki for our iPads and Nexus 7s and it works very well especially on the iPads, which have more management options than Android devices. The ability to important activation codes for Apple apps, which are then used up as they are installed by each device is extremely useful.

I was doing the Meraki CMNA yesterday - I have to say it was very good and the MDM within this (free) is also very powerful.

I've had a look at the live demo from Meraki and would like to experiment with the MDM to see if it can be rolled out at our schools. Although all the Meraki info states its free I can't see how you create a new (non demo) network. Do I have to sign up again or is this not a free app?

the MDM is 100% free - you select login and create account.

It will then set you up with a systems manager account. One thing to bear in mind is that there is a list of required outbound ports to be allowed which you may require your LEA to open (if its LEA managed). Does Meraki manage Ipads on multiple sites through the local wifi/lan? We've got 80 sites and couple of hundred wifi subnets.

All cloud managed so each device talks directly to Meraki (no more than 1.5kb per device).
