Dieing Netgear Switch but which HP to replace it with?

I have a cabinet with 2 netgear switches in it one is a 48port and one is a 24 port and i think the 24 port one is on its last legs shall we say. I want to replace it with a HP as i am trying to standardise the hardware we have and the last one we bought was a HP procurve as our core switch and it hasnt missed a beat, having just looked at the HP website theres lots on there and im a bit confused.

 

All i need it to do is a have a fibre port on the front for the feed from server room. 24 ports, web management console, and most importantly not cost the earth. Can anyone suggest which model to go for and where to purchase it from.

Procurve 2650 or newer equivalent. 48 10/100 ports 2 gigabit ports or they can take 2 GBICS for fiber or whatever you fancy.

You'll also need to buy the mini gbic for your fibre connection.

The ProCurve 2624 is the 24 port equivalent of the ProCurve 2650 if you prefer.

I found a 2524 but not a 2624 is that the one you meant?

It's a 2626 you're after. I've just bought a stack of 'em.

2626 because it has 24 10/100 ports and 2 10/100/1000 ports and 2 mini gbic ports but you can only use 2 10/100/1000's or 2 gbic's or a combination you cannot use all 4 at the same time.

Out of interest how much did you pay for them?? I can get them for £216.75 is that a good price??

That is a good price. I just paid £232 for the couple I bought.

Ollis was the supplier. We bought a whole lot stuff though, so maybe that brought extra discount? I'm going to be in cable hell in about 3 weeks time ;-).

My price was through proband/it index what ever their called. It had education only plastered all over the price.

go for the HP 1800, 24 ports, all Gigabit on on the uk.insight.com website, i think it is about 229 but you can get it cheap with been educational.

Personally, I would say go with the 26xx series as it has the full management capabilities that are starting to be needed in schools and will definitely be needed in coming years.

Right i have now found that it was another switch up th other end of the school that was faulty and thus nockingo ut my entire network and i now need to by a 48 port switch so as above i was looking fro a 2650 but where can i get one from my normal supplier is out of stock and i need one ASAP as i have got 1 IT suite and about 4 offices with no network!

Misco are pretty darn speedy -they got me a UPS battery here the next morning after placing an order at 5pm...
