One_Minute_Hero Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 We have received an invoice from APS regarding photocopying and scanning licence. Has anyone heard of this? the invoice mentions an over due account and renewal. we have no record of paying these before and as we have only been open 2years there isnt that much records to check. Scam?
X-13 Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 It sounds like the copyright-trolls who claim to own the copyright to scanning... IIRC they got shut down.
Pyroman Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 There is a body that does photocopying audits but they come in and give you a box and a load of stickers and you have to keep a record of what you've photocopied writing on the stickers and sticking them on a copy and put em in the box.
Ketlane Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 See Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA) : Licences for education for the real agency
Netman Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 Just had them on the phone too - sounds very dodgy to me...
Netman Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Seems we are just too damned suspicious... this is the official reply to my query to the CLA... "Many thanks for your message I can confirm that your school which is licensed by the CLA to use copyright material has been selected to take part in a data collection exercise for CLA and is one of nearly 20 other schools taking part in the summer term. We regularly conduct data collection exercises in over 700 schools per year as it is part of your schools licence agreement with us that from time to time we can carry out a data gathering exercise to determine what is being copied. This is not to police the licence but simply because we need your help to find out which authors’, publishers’ or artists’ work is being used so we can redistribute licence fees to those whose work is being copied from the Licence fee revenue. John F is one of our field officers and he visits schools to collect copyright data. He will arrange to meet you so that he can go through the exercise process with you and hopefully reassure you that the data collection exercise sounds worse that it is but is actually quite simple and easy to do. Many thanks for your help"
