Blargh!

I've just gotten the second wave of post-BETT carp... But one of them caught my eye. For the wrong reasons.

Hello [Mr. X-13]

Someone (hopefully you!) just asked to sign up to FILMCLUB.

To complete your signup, access the website,

join an existing club or start your own club please follow this link:

http://Das E-mail activation URL

(If clicking the link doesn't work, please paste it into your web browser.)

If you have any problems or questions at all, please email [email protected].

Best wishes,

FILMCLUB

Shortly followed by one with login details.

WTF? I didn't request loging details and I swear it's illegal to just sign people up to things without them asking. [i think... possibly. IANAL]

Strangely, the e-mail activation URL results in "activation code not found"

Was it one of those tiny small print things like selling info to third parties etc?

I talked to these guys at BETT. At no point did they say they were going to just sign me up.

I wonder if emailing them or phoning and checking it was definitely them, then asking kindly if they would stop it. Unless you want to join the film club in which case I refer you to @Netman's post :)

To be fair, it actually looks pretty cool.

I'd rather be the one to sign up for it, though. It doesn't look good for them, when they've just randomly signed me up.
